So my work will involve the separation of dissolved organic matter
(DOM) in oilfield waters, their molecular characterization, and
bio-remediation. In particular, we would like to show that they have
similar structure as DOM in the ocean and asphaltenes in petroleum fluids.
We are also interested to know if they can associate and form oil-in-water
(O/W) emulsions. Once I understand their structure and behavior, I will
work on their bio-remediation.
